Bipul Chatterjee, Executive Director of CUTS International, said that transport connectivity should be the main building block for intra-regional trade and cooperation in the BBIN sub-region and this must cover different modes of transportation.
"We have identified that several multi-modal connectivity options are already present in this sub-region and they need to be nurtured to realise their potential to double intra-regional trade in this sub-region from the current level of USD 20 billion," he said.
He was speaking at a meeting on multi-modal connectivity in the region.
Didar Singh, Distinguished Fellow at CUTS International, said improved political economy understanding is required to give the necessary push in this direction. PTI RR RAM
