Zoe Saldana on 'Avatar' sequel delays: I'm gonna be 53 when the last film comes out

Los Angeles: A day after it was announced that the final "Avatar" film won't release until 2031, franchise star Zoe Saldana joked she will be 53 by the time the sci-fi series concludes.

Studio Walt Disney Co on Tuesday pushed the release date of "Avatar 3" from December 2024 to December 2025.

Subsequently, "Avatar 4" will now hit the screens on December 21, 2029, instead of December 18, 2026, and "Avatar 5", the last chapter in the franchise which was scheduled for a December 22, 2028 release, will now debut on December 19, 2031.

Saldana, who plays Na'vi warrior Neytiri in the "Avatar" films, reacted to the announcement of sequel delays on her Instagram Stories.

The 44-year-old actor shared a screenshot of a report with the headline 'All of the Avatar Sequels Have Been Delayed With The Final Film Set For 2031'.

"Great! I'm gonna be 53 when the last avatar comes out. I was 27 when I shot the very first Avatar movie (sic)" she wrote alongside the photo with a couple of emoticons.

By December 2031, the 68-year-old James Cameron, director of "Avatar" films, would be 77.

Saldana last reprised her role of Neytiri in "Avatar: The Way of Water", the second film in the franchise which was released in December 2022.
