Peshawar, Jun 21 (PTI) Four volunteers of an armed militia, including a group leader, have been killed in an exchange of fire with militants in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said on Saturday.
An official of Baizai police station in Mardan district confirmed that Commander Zubair of Peace Lashkar, Junud al-Khyber Group, was among the four volunteers killed in an exchange of fire with militants on Friday in the mountainous terrain in Katling area, bordering Swat and Buner districts of the province.
The Peace Lashkar is a group of volunteers, formed at the village level, working with the support of police in flushing out militants.
Peace committees have been formed by local people in areas which are vulnerable to the regrouping of militants.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist incidents, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, following the collapse of the ceasefire agreement between the government and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in November 2022.
Security agencies and local administration are investigating the incident. PTI AYZ GSP GSP
