"Will return to Islamabad if polls not announced in 6 days": Imran Khan

Imran Khan leading protest march to Islamabad

With a stern warning to the government, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has withdrawn his protest march after reaching Islamabad.

"Announce election in six days, or will return to Islamabad with the entire nation", former Pakistan Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan warned the government as he addressed the protestors in Islamabad.

Addressing the participants of the ‘Azadi March’ at Jinnah Avenue, PTI chairman said he had reached Islamabad after 30 hours of traveling from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“Government has tried every method to crush our Azadi March, they used teargas on peaceful protest, our homes were raided and privacy of the homes were violated, however, I have seen the nation free itself of fear of slavery,” he said.

"He denounced the 'tactics' used by the 'imported government', including raids and arrests, to stop the PTI's march and thanked the Supreme Court (SC) for taking notice of the matter," the Dawn reported.

Imran Khan said three PTI workers lost their lives in Karachi while two workers were thrown off Ravi Bridge and thousands of others were arrested.

Giving a deadline to the government to announce the date for fresh polls in the country, Imran Khan said, "he is giving a six-day ultimatum to the government to dissolve assemblies and announce general elections in June."

“My message for imported government is to dissolve assemblies and announce elections, otherwise I will come back again to Islamabad after six days,” he added.

Following his six-day deadline announcement, ex-premier Imran Khan left for Bani Gala, leaving behind his supporters who marched for hours in anticipation of a major public gathering and sit-in.

Meanwhile, the PTI marchers who were in D-Chowk most of Wednesday night have entered Islamabad’s prohibited Red Zone, which is home to several sensitive buildings, including Supreme Court, PM House, US Embassy.

Imran Khan, who was ousted as the Prime Minister of Pakistan in April, called on his supporters to gather at Islamabad’s D-Chowk for a ‘peaceful’ protest rally to demand fresh elections. His call for the protest came after Pakistan's Supreme Court directed authorities to allow the protest rally in the national capital and restrained them from arresting the cricketer-turned-politician.

Amid leading thousands of his party supporters, Imran Khan who started his long protest March on Wednesday, May 25 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reached Islamabad in the morning on Thursday, May 26.

Protestors of Imran Khan's PTI party resorted to violence at sporadic places, creating arson, and breaking barriers. There were even reports of PTI supporters setting up the China Chowk metro station on fire, in Islamabad.
