15 years on, court hands three-year RI to former WR divisional engineer for accepting Rs 5,000 bribe

Ahmedabad, July 21 (PTI) Fifteen years after the then divisional engineer of Western Railway's Bhavnagar division was booked for accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe, the special CBI court here on Monday sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for three years and imposed a Rs 1 lakh fine.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a case in July 2010 against Harish Kishore Gupta for demanding and accepting a bribe from a railway contractor.

The Special Judge for CBI cases in Ahmedabad has sentenced Gupta to three years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 1 lakh, the CBI stated in a release.

The complaint stated that Gupta had sought the bribe for issuing a work order amounting to Rs 19.91 lakh and extending the work completion deadline, the CBI stated.

Gupta was arrested a day after a case was registered against him for bribery and misconduct, and searches were conducted at his residence and office. The chargesheet was filed in June 2011. PTI PJT NSK
