New Delhi, Jul 11 (PTI) A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly opening fire at a minor boy in northwest Delhi's Azadpur area to settle a personal rivalry, an official said on Friday.

The accused, identified as Tanish alias Lala, was nabbed for allegedly opening fire at Aryan (17) after a brief chase in the Majlis Park area, he said.

“On July 7, at 10.14 pm, information was received from Trauma Centre, Civil Lines, that Aryan had been admitted with gunshot injuries. His mother, Neetu, told the police that Aryan was standing near the foot overbridge opposite the MCD Colony in Azadpur with her and two others when three to four boys arrived and opened fire,” a senior police officer said.

Aryan suffered two bullet injuries and was rushed to the hospital. A case was registered at Adarsh Nagar police station under relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act.

Acting on specific inputs, the police laid a trap near Majlis Park on the night of July 9-10. “A black-blue scooter was intercepted on 51 Number Road after a brief chase. The rider was identified as Tanish, who was found carrying a pistol and a live cartridge,” the officer said.

During interrogation, Tanish confessed to opening fire at Aryan along with three associates to settle a personal rivalry. He admitted the attack was pre-planned, the officer said, adding that efforts are on to nab the remaining accused.

Tanish is a school dropout and was previously involved in a 2024 case of negligent firing registered at the Jahangirpuri police station.

Two cases have been registered against him — one under attempt to murder and the Arms Act, and the other for illegal possession of a firearm. PTI SSJ SSJ MNK MNK
