New Delhi, Jun 21 (PTI) A 32-year-old man, who continued his involvement in crime even after suffering a major road accident nearly a decade ago, was arrested in Delhi's Inderpuri area for his alleged role in a 2020 case under the MCOCA, an official on Saturday said.

The accused, identified as Suraj alias Michael, a resident of south Delhi's Madangir, was declared a proclaimed offender in December 2024 in connection with this case registered at Ambedkar Nagar Police Station in 2020, he said.

"Suraj is a known member of the 'Thak-Thak' gang and has been involved in nearly 30 cases of robbery, burglary, motor vehicle theft and illegal arms possession," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Crime, Aditya Gautam.

The arrest was made as part of a larger crackdown on the gang led by P. Silva, who was running a syndicate-style network involved in snatching, theft and armed robberies, police said.

While several members of the gang were arrested during investigation, Suraj remained at large, they said.

Suraj's movements were tracked to the Inderpuri area and he was arrested on June 19 during a targeted operation, police said.

Suraj told police during interrogation that he had been active in the gang since 2013 and continued his involvement in crime even after suffering a major road accident nearly a decade ago, the official said.

He had shifted from Ambedkar Nagar to Inderpuri to avoid detection and continued his illegal activities, police said.

Further investigation is on in connection with the matter, they said. PTI SGV SSJ AS AS
