Jalna, Jun 29 (PTI) All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani on Sunday opposed recent demands to drop the words "socialist" and "secular" from the Preamble of the Constitution.

Addressing a gathering on Thursday, RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale had called for a review of the two words claiming these were added during the Emergency and were never part of the Constitution drafted by B R Ambedkar.

"These two terms are the very essence of the Constitution, which gives equal rights to all citizens irrespective of caste and religion. They were incorporated during Indira Gandhi's prime ministership unanimously. They form the core of the Constitution's basic structure," Rahmani told PTI here.

He also slammed the BJP government in Uttarakhand for implementing the Uniform Civil Code, saying it was an attempt to erase the distinct identity of Muslims.

"Every religion in India has its own personal laws. The UCC doesn't affect just Muslims, it threatens the religious autonomy of all communities. The AIMPLB is fighting UCC both legally and publicly and will continue to defend the constitutional rights of minorities," he asserted.

Speaking at an event here on Saturday, he also said the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 was against the Constitution and violates the rights of Muslims. PTI COR BNM
