Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 3 (PTI) Travellers arriving at or departing from the international airport here are in for a visual treat as four art towers depicting Kerala's rich cultural heritage have been set up along the route to the aerodrome, TIAL said on Thursday.

The Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Ltd (TIAL), which manages the aerodrome, said in a statement that the gateway towers are located on the Chakkar overbridge and each narrate a unique story about the state's cultural heritage.

"Blending tradition with modernity, these vivid paintings will showcase the spirit of Kerala. Passengers will now be greeted by a cascade of colours and culture, turning every arrival into a memorable experience," it said.

At night, these towers are lit up in a way that brings out the vibrant colours of the artwork, according to the photos shared by TIAL.

Tower 1 is a tribute to Kerala’s traditional performing arts -- like Theyyam, Kathakali, Oppana, Margamkali, Pooram, and Ratholsavam -- while the second one depicts the state's literary and wellness legacy that includes Thunchath Ezhuthachan -- the father of the Malayalam language -- and tributes to the Malayalam script, Kalaripayattu, Ayurveda, and the boat races, the statement said.

The third tower is a cultural window into Thiruvananthapuram itself as it depicts iconic landmarks such as the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, the temple procession through the airport, Beemapally, Palayam Church, artworks of Raja Ravi Varma and glimpses of the city’s majestic palaces, it said.

The fourth and last tower is a representation of modern Kerala and shows the legislative assembly, the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Technopark, Napier Museum, and the Vizhinjam International Port, the statement said.

The entire project was brought to life under the artistic direction of renowned artists Ambili Thekkedathu and Sanu Krariyely, founders of Deva Creations, Ottapalam, it said.

"With this initiative, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport doesn’t just welcome passengers, it introduces them to Kerala’s heart and soul, painted in bold strokes and rich hues," the statement added. PTI HMP HMP KH
