Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, whose party is ruling in Delhi and Punjab, Friday admitted his failure in controlling stubble burning incidences in Punjab and ask for a year for finding a solution to this burning issue.
Addressing a press conference along with his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann, Kejriwal said, "Since our government is in Punjab, we are responsible for the stubble burning. It has been only six months since we formed the government there and there were issues that were being addressed. We are finding solutions. Give us a year's time to address the issue."
It is important to note that Kejriwal has been suggesting ‘solutions’ to reduce stubble burning until recently without a focus on implementation.
The air quality in Delhi-NCR has deteriorated to a severe category with growing incidences of stubble burning in Punjab.
The rising pollution has forced the closure of primary schools in Delhi and Noida.
Last year, Kejriwal promised that AAP will tackle the problem when it comes to the power in Punjab.
However, the AAP supremo failed to keep up his promises after forming the government in March this year due to his increased focus on expanding the party’s foothold in other states.
The opposition parties – BJP and Congress – have been attacking Kejriwal accusing him of ‘lying’ and ‘cheating’ the people of both Delhi and Punjab on the issue of pollution.
