Bhiwandi civic body distributes wick making machines to commercial sex workers

Thane, Jun 20 (PTI) The Bhiwandi Nizampura Municipal Corporation distributed eight wick-making machines to commercial sex workers with the aim of rehabilitating them, an official said on Friday.

The machines were distributed by the civic body's social welfare department in Hanuman Tekdi area, the official added.

"The scheme aims to provide a dignified source of livelihood to women and girls involved in sex work, enabling them to exit the trade and integrate into mainstream society. BNMC administrator and commissioner Anmol Sagar expressed hope the project would lead to long-term economic independence for the beneficiaries," an official release said.

They can produce 'divya phulwaris' which are in demand during festivals, Sagar said. PTI COR BNM
