Latur, Jul 14 (PTI) Workers of the BJP and Congress had a brief altercation during a road inauguration programme in Maharashtra's Latur city on Sunday.

Former minister and Congress MLA Amit Deshmukh arrived for the inauguration ceremony at Majge Nagar in the evening when a group of BJP workers reached the venue shouting slogans and holding placards.

BJP workers, led by the party's city unit president, Ajit Patil Kavhekar, protested against the event, claiming that the project had been sanctioned under the BJP government but the opposition Congress was trying to take credit for the work and misleading the people.

In retaliation, Congress supporters shouted slogans, leading to a brief altercation between the two groups.

The police rushed to the scene and intervened swiftly, restoring order.

Workers from both parties have said that no official police complaint has been lodged regarding the incident.

Talking to reporters after the programme, MLA Deshmukh alleged that the BJP doesn't want development in the city and wants to disturb the peaceful atmosphere. PTI COR ARU
