Chennai: Condemning the murder of his party office-bearer, BJP state unit president K Annamalai on Friday slammed the ruling DMK for being "inept" at maintaining law and order.

Expressing shock over the killing of PPG Sankar, BJP treasurer of the State Scheduled Castes wing by anti-socials, Annamalai said daily crimes showed that "law and order is not under control," in the "inept DMK regime."

Sankar, president of Valarpuram village panchayat in Kancheepuram district was hacked to death by unidentified men on April 27 near Poonamallee here.

In a series of tweets, Annamalai said the police department is mandated to protect people and ensure security. It has however been transformed into a wing to carry out the diktats of the ruling party, he claimed.

Chief Minister M K Stalin, who is looking after the Home department, is "without efficiency" to maintain law and order, he alleged. However, the CM is staging a drama claiming to be No 1 Chief Minister and deceiving the people.

Demanding tough action against the culprits, the BJP leader said his party would stage state-wide protest if such crimes continued.

More than three men have surrendered in a court here in connection with the murder.
