New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh was criticised by the BJP for falsely claiming a discrepancy between the Indian and US accounts of a recent phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, despite the fact that the United States has not yet issued any official readout of the conversation.

Ramesh alleged that the US version of the call contradicted the Indian government's statement delivered by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

During the video byte to ANI, Ramesh theatrically waved his phone, claiming it contained the so-called US document. But fact-checks quickly revealed that the "readout" he cited was from January 2025, completely unrelated to the current discussion.

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya, in a post on X, slammed Ramesh's claims, stating, “Jairam Ramesh is a congenital liar — much like Rahul Gandhi. He’s peddling yet another falsehood by citing a months-old document, all while the US hasn’t even released a statement on the latest Modi-Trump call.”

Malviya further added, “The Congress and its troll ecosystem can’t stand that Prime Minister Modi made it unequivocally clear: India neither needs nor accepts third-party mediation. The de-escalation with Pakistan happened through DGMOs — at Pakistan’s own request.”

Ramesh's remarks came after Modi spoke with President Trump and set the record straight that India had paused strikes on Pakistan during Operation Sindoor following a request from Islamabad and not due to mediation or offer of a trade deal by the US.

In his 35-minute phone call with Trump on Tuesday, Modi briefed the US President on Operation Sindoor, launched by India against terror sites in Pakistan, and made it clear that it has never accepted any third-party mediation and will never accept it in the future, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
