Boy finds pistol in garbage heap, fires a round believing it to be toy; no one injured

Mumbai, Jun 28 (PTI) In a freak incident, a boy who found a pistol in a garbage dump fired a round assuming it was a toy, though fortunately no one was injured, a Mumbai police official said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday near a ground close to Saikrupa Chawl in Dahisar, a suburb on the northern tip of the metropolis.

"A 12-year-old boy found a pistol in a heap of garbage along with four rounds. Thinking it was a toy, he fired one round. No one was injured," the official said.

A police team rushed to the spot after being alerted about the firing and confiscated the pistol and bullets, he said.

A case has been registered against an unknown person, the Dahisar police station official said, adding efforts were on to trace the details of the pistol and its ownership. PTI ZA BNM
