Thane, Jul 17 (PTI) Burglars looted various items, including imported and Indian made cigarettes and silver idols, collectively valued at over Rs 51 lakh from a godown in Khopat area of Thane in Maharashtra, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place during the intervening night of July 14 and 15, they said.
"Burglars broke open the shutter of the godown and decamped with imported and Indian made cigarettes, a DVR system, Rs 1.2 lakh cash and two silver idols of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Laxmi worth around Rs 1 lakh. The stolen items were collectively valued at Rs 51.16 lakh. The distribution firm's staff found the premises ransacked in the morning of July 15," an official of Rabodi police station said.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by the distributor, who handles the facility.
Based on the complaint, a complaint was filed under sections 305 (a) (theft in a dwelling house or godown) and 331(2) (house-trespass or house-breaking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), he said.
The police have not arrested anyone so far, the official said, adding that a probe into the case was underway. PTI COR NP
