New Delhi, Jul 1 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday sought the support of doctors to make the national capital a medical hub on the occasion of National Doctors' Day.

Gupta interacted with doctors at the Delhi Secretariat and sought their support.

"Medical facilities in Delhi are struggling. I urge doctors to support the Delhi government so that we can work together to transform Delhi into a medical hub, providing better treatment not only for the residents of Delhi but also for those who come from other places. We have prestigious and skilled doctors here," she stated.

Earlier in the day, Gupta attended an event commemorating the occasion at the Maulana Azad Medical College.

"This year, the theme is 'Behind the Mask: Who Heals the Healer?' This is quite an apt theme," the chief minister remarked, highlighting that doctors need a proper working environment, with technical assistants, nurses, and paramedical staff to support them.

"Without this, it is impossible for them to work effectively. Delhi hospitals face immense pressure daily, with huge OPD loads, ICU, and trauma centre demands," she opined, adding previous governments did not build enough infrastructure to meet these needs.

Stressing that her government is working to enhance medical infrastructure and technical assistance in terms of medical equipment, she said their goal is to ensure that everyone has access to treatment.

"But now, the government is fully committed to improving medical infrastructure, providing permanent jobs, technical support, necessary machinery, and medicines. It is the need of Delhi and the need of time. We are working on mission mode but it will take time," she said. PTI SLB MPL MPL
