I will not contest Congress Presidential polls: Ashok Gehlot

New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday amid suspense over whether he will file a nomination for the post of party president.

Post his meeting with Congress high command Gehlot addressing the media said he has apologised to Sonia Gandhi for what happened and conspired in Rajasthan with several MLAs holding a parallel meeting while Congress observers - Mallikarjun Kharge and Ajay Maken were in Jaipur for CLP meet of Congress MLAs.

Gehlot also announced his decision to not contest for upcoming Congress presidential polls.

On being asked if he will still continue to be Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Gehlot said this will be decided by Sonia Gandhi and the Congress party.

Gehlot, a three-time state chief minister, described himself as a disciplined soldier of the party and expressed his sadness over the turn of affairs in the state.

Gehlot's visit comes a day after the Congress issued show-cause notices to three of his loyalists - Rajasthan ministers Shanti Dhariwal and Mahesh Joshi, and Dharmendra Rathore - for their "grave indiscipline".
