Delhi: Bystanders help foil robbery attempt, 2 arrested

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) Two men were arrested and Rs 60,000 in stolen cash was recovered after alert locals foiled a robbery attempt in Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area, an official said on Friday.

The incident occurred on June 18 at around 10.05 pm when Shahjad, who was en route to deliver a consignment of clothes in Ashok Gali, was confronted by three men in front of a shop.

“One of the accused blocked his path while another pushed him. In the scuffle, a third man allegedly snatched Rs 1 lakh from the victim’s pocket," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said.

Despite the sudden assault, an alert Shahjad raised an alarm and, with the assistance of locals, managed to catch two men on the spot, while the third man managed to escape, the DCP added.

Upon receiving a PCR call, the police reached the spot and recorded Shahjad's statement, leading to a case being registered at the Gandhi Nagar Police Station.

The accused were identified as Vicky (21) and Sumit alias Kante (28), a habitual offender.

Following their arrest, Rs 35,000 was recovered from Sumit and Rs 25,000 from Vicky, amounting to a total recovery of Rs 60,000, the police said.

Both men were produced before a local court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

Further investigation is underway to trace the third absconding accused and recover the remaining amount, the police stated. PTI SSJ SSJ MPL MPL MPL
