New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday urged the general public to plant trees in tribute to their mothers under the government's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' initiative.

Gupta, who inaugurated a month-long Van Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam, said, "The Delhi government is committed to a greener Delhi, and in this 2.0 version, we will ensure that every Delhiite participates. I appeal to people to plant as many trees as possible and work together to improve the environment." She also alleged that the previous Delhi government run by the Aam Aadmi Party did not take the initiative seriously since it was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the government is set to plant over 70 lakh saplings across the city in its afforestation drive.

"Delhi will only be better when it is greener," he said. "We will ensure participation from schools, colleges, and residential societies in this campaign." He also invited the public to visit the Van Mahotsav exhibition, which showcases rare and ancient trees, some of which are 200-300 years old. PTI NSM ANM VN VN
