New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood on Saturday laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth Rs 5.5 crore in his Janakpuri constituency.
The redevelopment works include the construction of a new RCC drain, toe walls with grit plaster and iron grills, pavements, installation of streetlights on both sides of the road, and landscaping and beautification of the service lanes and nearby areas, a statement said.
The event was attended by West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, members of local RWAs, market associations, and residents, it stated.
Sood said transforming Janakpuri into one of the most modern, clean, and liveable areas of Delhi is among his top priorities.
The development works are being undertaken keeping in mind the needs and concerns of local residents, he added.
He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government is actively addressing long-pending civic issues that have affected residents for years.
"For decades, the voices of Janakpuri residents were ignored, but now a wave of change is sweeping through the constituency," Sood said, according to the statement.
The minister added that for years, people in Janakpuri, Vikaspuri, Uttam Nagar, Najafgarh, and Nangloi suffered due to poor infrastructure, open drains, stray animals, and damaged roads.
Taking cognisance of these problems, Chief Minister Gupta has initiated steps to transform the stretch into a cleaner and safer zone, it stated.
"With the cooperation of residents and RWAs, we will leave no stone unturned to make this area clean, green, and beautiful," Sood said.
He added that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Gupta, the Delhi government is committed to ensuring inclusive and sustainable development across the city.
Taking a dig at his political opponents, Sood said those who failed to deliver in the past are now spreading misinformation to mislead the public.
He urged residents to stay united and work together for the development of Janakpuri, it added. PTI SHB HIG HIG
