New Delhi, Nov 20 (PTI) The Delhi government plans to equip all its schools with AI-enabled learning and modern classrooms over the next five years as part of a broader effort to upgrade public education infrastructure, the city's Education Minister Ashish Sood said on Thursday.
Attending a school bag distribution at an MCD School in Lajpat Nagar, he highlighted the government's focus on technology-driven learning, and asserted that it was working "at multiple levels" to strengthen public education.
Delhi's schools will undergo wide-ranging improvements, including AI-based teaching tools, upgraded furniture and redesigned classrooms in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Sood said, adding both MCD and Delhi government schools would be modernised using CSR funds.
"It fills me with pride to be among our young learners today. Having studied in a government school myself, this feels like a homecoming; these bags we hand out today are not just for books, they carry the dreams and aspirations of students," he said.
He informed the gathering that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, government schools in the national capital would be upgraded to a level where "future generations will seek recommendations for admission".
The Delhi education minister urged teachers to play a stronger role in driving change within classrooms, calling it a collective responsibility shared by the government, community and partner organisations.
More than 2,200 school bags were distributed to students from nursery to Class 5 under a CSR partnership with GAIL.
The event was attended by Lok Sabha MP Bansuri Swaraj, MCD Education Committee Chairman Yogesh Verma, MLA Neeraj Baisoya, Municipal Councillor Sharad Kapoor and representatives from Peepul, an education non-profit.
The Lajpat Nagar school was among the first public schools to be revitalised in 2015 in partnership with Peepul. The organisation has since supported classroom and teaching improvements in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh.
Urmila Chowdhury, the co-founder and Director (Education) at Peepul, said it was "deeply meaningful" to witness the celebration at the school where their work began a decade ago, adding that sustained collaboration and quality teaching had played a key role in improving learning outcomes.
