Delhi Police bust cyber fraud gang posing as part-time job recruiters; 4 held

New Delhi, Jun 28 (PTI) The Delhi Police busted a cyber fraud gang that allegedly duped unsuspecting individuals by offering fake part-time jobs involving rating hotels and restaurants on social media platforms, an official said on Saturday.

Four men were arrested following a three-day operation that was initiated after a 32-year-old fashion design student claimed she was cheated out of Rs 90,800 by the fraudsters.

Anshul Kumar (20) and Sandeep (19) were arrested on June 20, while Rajender (23) and Ravindra Beda (20) were arrested on June 22.

In total, 15 similar complaints linked to the same bank accounts surfaced across various districts and states, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said.

"The complainant received a message offering a part-time job. Initially, she received small payments for completing basic tasks. However, after investing money of about Rs 90,800 to earn higher returns as per instructions, she eventually received no returns, and the fraudsters kept demanding more money," the officer said.

During the investigation, it emerged that Anshul and Sandeep provided their bank accounts to Rajender and Ravindra in exchange for two per cent of the credited amount.

These accounts were then allegedly resold to individuals, including a man named Vijay, currently at large, for a three per cent commission.

Police said Rajender used social media on WiFi-enabled phones without SIM cards to avoid detection. Accommodation was arranged for account holders in Jodhpur, and their banking kits and linked phones were collected to carry out transactions.

The recovered items include four mobile phones, five SIM cards, and two bank passbooks. Police also froze the accused's accounts, including Rs 30,000 belonging to the complainant.

During interrogation, chats from social media concerning account trading and fraudulent activity were found. The accused would allegedly delete all communication after executing the scams.
