Shimla, Jul 6 (PTI) Expressing concern over recurring natural disasters across Himachal Pradesh, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Sunday stressed the need for environmental awareness among citizens.
He said, "Rampant deforestation and unregulated development are aggravating the situation. If we do not take corrective steps now, nature will continue to strike back." The governor called for inter-departmental consultations to formulate a comprehensive and sustainable strategy to preserve the state's fragile ecology. This comes after he flagged off three trucks carrying relief material to Mandi district to support disaster-affected families.
The relief supplies, sent through the State Red Cross Society, include 540 blankets, 500 tarpaulin sheets, 20 boxes of clothing, kitchen sets, buckets, and other essential household items.
Speaking on the occasion, Shukla expressed deep concern over the severe damage caused in Thunag and nearby areas, including disrupted connectivity due to damaged roads, landslides, and flash floods. He commended the district administration, armed forces, NDRF, and SDRF teams for their tireless work in rescue and relief operations.
The governor appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities and keep rescue sites clear. "Local people have better knowledge of the terrain, and their cooperation is vital in ensuring that help reaches those in need quickly and efficiently," he said.
Shukla plans to visit the affected areas to meet victims and assess the situation. He assured continued relief efforts through the Red Cross and urged people to extend support to affected families. The governor also appealed for vigilance during the rainy season and cautioned tourists against venturing close to rivers and rivulets. PTI COR HIG HIG
