New Delhi, Jul 9 (PTI) In a first, an e-library for lawyers has been opened in the Rouse Avenue district court complex.
The B S Sherawat Memorial E-Library offers an integrated system comprising legal research platform SCC Online, legal research online database Manupatra and an Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform, Lucio, along with several e-books on law across 15 desktops.
Neeraj, president of the Central Delhi Bar Court Association, said, "It is the first state-of-the-art integrated e-library across Delhi district courts, which will help advocates in legal research." He said the e-library will cater to all lawyers, irrespective of their registration with any state bar council.
"We have two printers and photocopiers. The library is open from 9.30 am to 5 pm. We will also plan to gradually upgrade the facilities, besides providing for physical law books," Neeraj added.
The library was opened at a cost of around Rs 20 lakh, which was provided by the Bar Council of Delhi.
"There was a request made by our association to the Bar Council of Delhi for the library. Lawyers continuously need to remain updated on recent judicial precedents, case laws and amendments. Besides, each case needs specific legal research. This e-library will be of immense value to advocates," he said.
The cost of maintaining the library would amount to Rs 1 lakh a month which will include the subscription fees.
The library will be manned by a technical staff and a library superintendent, Neeraj said.
The e-library was inaugurated on July 5 by Delhi law minister Kapil Mishra. PTI MNR MNR AMK AMK
