New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) In a step towards digitising fare collection and ensuring transparent travel benefits for women and transgender commuters, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has called for expression of interest (EoI) from banks and financial institutions to roll out smart cards under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework.
According to the notice published by DTC, the empanelled banks will be responsible for facilitating travel through smart cards usable across all public transport in the capital.
These cards will also replace the existing 'pink ticket' system currently offered to women for free travel on buses.
Additionally, the Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, during her Budget Day address, criticised the earlier practice of issuing paper-based pink tickets to women, alleging that it was a major source of corruption under the previous administration.
She announced that the new system would allow women to travel without having to rely on paper-based tickets, instead using secure digital cards linked to their identity. PTI NSM NSM AMJ AMJ
