Fire breaks out in Visva Bharati building, no report of any injury

Kolkata, Nov 18 (PTI) A fire broke out at the Bhasa Bhavan building on the Visva Bharati campus in Santiniketan on Tuesday, fire brigade sources said.

There was no report of any injury in the fire, they said.

One fire tender was rushed to the site, and the fire services personnel managed to put out the flame, which broke out in the first floor of the Bhasa Bhavan building before the start of classes at around 9:30 am, the sources said.

The fire, which originated from an air conditioner on the first floor, was initially contained by the security personnel present, who immediately informed the fire brigade, the sources said.

The electric connection to the section was switched off immediately by the university security.

The cause of the fire was being ascertained.

Classes resumed in the building after the fire brigade gave the all-clear signal following a thorough check, and power connection was restored to the affected portion, a central university official said. PTI SUS RG
