Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress leader and former MLA Satya Prakash Sakhwar joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday in the presence of state BJP president Vishnu Dutt Sharma.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state Home Minister Narottam Mishra were also present on the occasion.
Sakhwar, who was earlier president of the Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) state unit, said he took the BJP's membership after being impressed by the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and development works of CM Chouhan.
He also criticised the Congress, claiming it has no policy, rules and leadership, and described it as a party divided among several groups.
Sakhwar also claimed the Congress has not done anything for the Dalit community and that it ensured his defeat in the last Assembly elections.
The state Assembly polls are due this year-end.
