Gujarat Governor unfurls national flag at Republic Day event in Botad

Botad, Jan 26 (PTI) Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat unfurled the tricolour at the state-level Republic Day function held in Botad district on Thursday.

State Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar and Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Bhatia were also present at the function held at an open ground in Botad town.

Different contingents of the Gujarat state police, Indian Coast Guard, Border Security Force, Chetak Commandos, State Reserve Police, dog squad, mounted police and policemen from Madhya Pradesh took part in a parade as part of the Republic Day celebrations on the ground.

Apart from the parade, the dignitaries also watched cultural programmes and daredevil stunts performed by the policemen, including women personnel.

Elsewhere in Gujarat, ministers, MLAs and other leaders unfurled the national flag at different district headquarters.

Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president C R Paatil unfurled the tricolour at the party's state unit headquarters in capital Gandhinagar.

Common citizens also participated in the Republic Day celebrations by unfurling the national flags at various public and private premises in Gujarat.

In coastal Porbandar town, members of a swimming club unfurled the tricolour by standing in sea water off the coast, a tradition they have been following for many years. PTI PJT NP NP
