Gurugram: Heavy rains have once again turned Gurugram into a flooded mess, raising serious questions about the city’s civic planning and the Haryana government’s response. Roads are waterlogged, homes are flooded, and many residents are left struggling.
Columnist and political commentator Suhel Seth didn’t hold back. In a series of sharp tweets, he blamed Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and his government for the chaos. “Gurugram is a shame,” he wrote, calling out the poor infrastructure and lack of responsibility shown by the authorities.
The downpour began on July 9, leaving even the city’s most expensive areas—like DLF Phase V—underwater. Cars were stuck, roads collapsed, and water entered several homes. Many residents shared photos and videos online, tagging the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and demanding action.
In one of his posts, Seth mocked the "smart city" tag often given to Gurugram, urging people to face the reality: “Let’s be honest. Gurugram is a shame... a shame on the jokers who govern the place.”
Let’s be honest. Gurugram is a shame. A shame on how shoddy our infrastructure is; a shame on the jokers who govern the place and a shame on the priorities of the State Government.

So the next time someone tells you Gurugram is a smart city, look that unsmart person in the eye!
He even took a jab at Chief Minister Saini’s reported plans to bring Disneyland to the city. “Just pray Mickey Mouse knows how to swim,” he joked, adding that even rats might flee this sinking ship.
I’ve been told @NayabSainiBJP wants to bring Disneyland to Gurugram. Just pray Mickey Mouse knows how to swim. Or else the rats will have no choice except to flee a sunken ship😉

In a fresh tweet on Friday, Seth demanded accountability: “Why is the @DC_Gurugram not being taken to task? Why? Why is @NayabSainiBJP shielding him?”

A senior journalist covering the Delhi-NCR real estate market said the problem runs deep.
“Gurugram grew backwards. Buildings and offices came first, then the planning. Noida did it the right way, first came the plan, then came the people,” he said.
The rain wasn’t just an inconvenience; it was deadly.
Five people died in separate incidents, including three due to electrocution, during the overnight downpour.
