Haryana proud of Indian U-19 T20 world cup winning team, its captain: Khattar

Chandigarh, Jan 30 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday met with family members of Shafali Verma, the captain of the Indian U-19 Women's T20 World Cup winning team, and said the country and the state are proud of the achievement.

Khattar met the family in Rohtak and congratulated them after India on Sunday won its maiden ICC title in women's cricket by lifting the inaugural U-19 T20 World Cup.

According to an official statement here, Khattar said the victory came under the leadership of a daughter of Haryana and it is a matter of pride for every Haryanvi.

The chief minister also extended his best wishes to the young Indian squad for a bright future.

During the meeting, Shafali Verma's grandfather Sant Lal Verma and father Sanjeev Verma honoured the chief minister with a shawl.

India on Sunday won their maiden ICC title in women's cricket as a bunch of sprightly and talented teenagers lifted the inaugural U-19 World Cup with an emphatic seven-wicket victory over England.

The Shafali Verma-led India U-19 squad managed to do what their seniors could not by clearing the final hurdle in a global event. PTI SUN IJT IJT
