New Delhi: Under pressure, Maharashtra government on Sunday cancelled government resolutions on the three language policy for schools.

However, announceing the decision, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis alleged that Shiv Sena (UBT) chief and forrmer chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had accepted Mashelkar panel's suggestions on implementing three-language policy from class 1.

Earlier, Thackeray burnt copies of the June 17 government resolution on the three language policy for schools at a well-attended protest event in south Mumbai.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) also held similar protests across the state.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said efforts are being made to ensure the need for organising a morcha on July 5 against the three-language formula doesn't arise.

Pawar's assurance comes amid protests by the Opposition against the "imposition" of the Hindi language in schools from class 1 on the eve of the monsoon session of the state legislature.
