Shimla, June 26 (PTI) Throwing the warning to not go near rivers and streams amid the rain fury in Himachal Pradesh to the wind, tourists could be seen in a viral video playing with their children in the fast currents of Beas River in Mandi district.
In the video, which went viral on social media on Thursday, people could be seen ignoring the warnings and entering the river, which is in spate, near the Panchavaktra temple.
The district administration has already cautioned tourists and locals several times not to go near the river, especially during the rainy season when the water level can rise suddenly.
Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Apurv Devgan, has appealed to the people not to go near the rivers and streams during the rainy season.
Due to a cloudburst at Sainj Valley in Kullu district, more water has been released in the downstream areas from the Pandoh Dam, and the water level of Beas may increase suddenly as a result.
In such a situation, Devgan said, it is advisable that tourists and locals don’t go near the banks of Beas.
On Wednesday, flash floods triggered by cloudbursts wreaked havoc in Kangra and Kullu districts.
Two people died while 10 others were feared swept away in Kangra. Massive damage to public and private property has also been reported from the two districts. PTI BPL ARI
