Latehar, Dec 14 (PTI) Police on Sunday seized illegal foreign liquor worth around Rs 50 lakh, after a container truck carrying the consignment overturned in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, officials said.
The recovery was made during a checking drive under the Chandwa police station limits, following a tip-off about the transportation of a large quantity of illegal liquor, they said.
Chandwa police station officer-in-charge Randhir Kumar said more than 1,000 cartons of illegal foreign liquor were recovered from the truck, where those were concealed beneath cement sacks.
The estimated market value of the seized liquor is around Rs 50 lakh, he said.
According to police, the driver attempted to flee on spotting the checking team near Devnad Bridge, lost control of the vehicle and the truck overturned.
The driver and his helper managed to escape from the spot, the officer said.
The truck has been seized, and raids are being conducted to nab the absconding accused, police said, adding that further investigation is underway. PTI CORR RPS RBT
