Important cases heard in the Supreme Court on Monday, January 23: * In a major relief for former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, the SC dismissed the CBI's appeal challenging the Bombay High Court order granting bail to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader in a corruption case.
* SC said it will consider setting up a three-judge bench to adjudicate the case related to wearing of the Islamic head covering in Karnataka schools following its split verdict.
* SC dismissed a plea seeking direction for registering of a case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for an alleged objectionable speech during an election campaign in Rajasthan's Alwar in 2018.
* SC said it will hear on January 25 the petition of journalist Rana Ayyub challenging the summons issued to her by a special PMLA court in Ghaziabad in a money laundering case lodged by the ED.
* SC directed the Nagaland government to pass orders within one week on the appointment of senior IPS officer Rupin Sharma as the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state.
* SC expressed unhappiness over the seven-year delay in the creation of adequate infrastructure for special courts in Bihar to deal with cases under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act and asked why government buildings can't be vacated for the courts.
