New Delhi, Jul 4 (PTI) A six-year-old elephant found injured in Jharkhand's Saranda forests is on its way to recovery following swift action by forest officials and support from a specialist team dispatched by the wildlife care and rehabilitation centre Vantara.

The elephant, discovered with a swollen and badly injured hind leg, has been under observation of the forest officials since late June. Following a request from the state forest department, a rescue team from Vantara arrived in Saranda earlier this week to aid in the medical efforts, according to a statement.

The team is currently managing the rescue operation and making arrangements to transport the elephant to Gujarat, where it will undergo specialised veterinary treatment and rehabilitation at Vantara's facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

The operation has been closely managed by the forest departments of Jharkhand and Odisha, whose officials provided the necessary support and coordination for the safe handling of the animal in a challenging landscape, the statement read.

Spread across thousands of acres, Vantara is equipped with modern veterinary hospitals, hydrotherapy pools, elephant care units, and enclosures that replicate natural habitats, it said. PTI MG MIN MIN
