Jaipur: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Jaipur police has joined hands with the Federation of Rajasthan Trade and Industry (FORTI) to support victims and families left vulnerable due to crime, an official said on Wednesday.
The program will offer long-term aid including education fees, skill training, monthly financial support, and fixed deposits to those devastated by criminal acts, the official said.
DCP West Amit Kumar, who played a pivotal role in forging the partnership, said, "During investigations, we often meet families whose lives are completely shattered by crime. Now, instead of just registering FIRs, we can actually help them stand on their feet again."
The idea first developed when police officers in Jaipur West noticed repeated patterns of crime, which left victims scarred and also pushed them into a cycle of poverty and helplessness.
To address this, police reached out to FORTI, and after supporting seven families on a pilot basis, the collaboration was officially formalised. Encouraged by the response, the program is now being extended to other police districts under Jaipur Commissionerate. Through the MoU, up to 50 such cases can be supported across the city.
Under the agreement, FORTI while setting up a dedicated committee to assess cases referred by the police will also design individual rehabilitation plans. These may include funding for children's education, vocational training, employment linkages, or financial security measures like fixed deposits, Kumar said.
Priority will be given to women, children, senior citizens, and victims who are disabled or seriously ill. The MoU also stresses strict confidentiality, especially in cases involving sexual offences or minors, he added.
With industrialists and Bhamashahs already pledging advance support, officials believe the initiative marks a major step toward integrating victim rehabilitation into the criminal justice system contributing to not just legal redress, but a chance at rebuilding lives.
