Lumpy skin disease: No proposal yet for easy loan to cattle rearers, says Rajasthan farm minister

Jaipur, Jan 30 (PTI) There is no proposal under consideration yet for giving loans on easy rates to cattle rearers whose animals died due to lumpy skin disease, Rajasthan Agriculture Minister Lal Chand Kataria said on Monday.

Speaking during Question Hour in the Assembly, Kataria said 76,030 cattle died due to lumpy skin disease in the state last year.

However, there is no proposal under consideration for giving loans on easy rates to the cattle rearers to purchase new cattle, he said.

Citing data, Kataria said that according to the guidelines of the central government to control and prevent the skin disease in bovines, a total of 106.46 lakh cattle have been vaccinated till December.

He said that the share of expenditure by the Centre and state was 60-40 per cent.

According to the figures, 15,67,217 cattle were infected by the lumpy skin disease till December 31. Of them, 14,91,187 cattle recovered and 76,030 died.

Jodhpur was the most affected district where with the highest number of cattle affected at 1,15,864 while the death toll was 4,159 -- the maximum in the state.

The data also showed that there were no cases of infection in Baran district. PTI SDA FZH
