Gadchiroli, Mar 15 (PTI) A Naxalite allegedly involved in the murder of a man last week and also wanted in nearly two dozen other offences has been arrested in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday.
Prakash alias Aadve Moore Gavde (27), a resident of Mardhur village in the east Maharashtra district, was nabbed on Tuesday, said a police release.
Suspected Naxalites had on March 9 killed a man in Bhamragadh taluka. The deceased, identified as Sainath Narote (26), was picked up by Maoists from his home in Mardhur village and later shot dead, said the police.
During investigation, the police found Gavde's involvement in the killing of his fellow villager, said the release.
Acting on a tip-off, a special squad of the Gadchiroli police conducted an anti-Naxalite operation in a forest located 10km away from Mardhur village and arrested Gavde, it said.
The police said Gavde has held various posts in Maoist organisations and is an accused in 22 serious offences, including 10 murders, in the district.
A case has been registered against Gavde in connection with the murder of Narote and police were looking for two more suspects, said the release. PTI COR CLS RSY RSY
