Maha: Surat trader held at Pune railway station for illegal possession of firearms

Pune, Jan 25 (PTI) A 47-year-old garment trader from Surat was arrested from the Pune railway station in Maharashtra for alleged illegal possession of a pistol and six rounds, police said.

The arrest was made on Tuesday, a Government Railway Police (GRP) officer said.

"The businessman, identified as Anil Kumar Upadhyay, had come to Pune from Surat Monday in connection with his garment business. He planned to return to Surat the next day after completing his work when the police found him carrying a pistol and six rounds at the Pune railway station," he said.

He told the police that he had procured the firearms from a Bhopal-based woman, a first information report (FIR) said.

The offence was registered under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act.

Upadhyay was produced in the court and remanded to the police custody for five days. PTI SPK NP NP
