Mumbai, Nov 14 (PTI) The one per cent reservation for orphans in government jobs in Maharashtra will apply to "vacant posts" instead of "available posts", as per the revised provisions.
A government resolution (GR) or order issued on Thursday tightened eligibility norms and changed the method of calculating posts for the implementation of the orphan quota.
The GR narrowed the definition of "institutional orphan" to include only those children whose biological parents died before they turned 18 and who were raised exclusively in institutions recognised under the Juvenile Justice Act.
The earlier word "parents" was replaced with "biological parents".
The state has also decided to implement orphan reservation under the total parallel reservation system, instead of the compartmentalised structure used for disability quota, as per the GR.
If a selected orphan-category candidate refuses the post or resigns, the next candidate from the same category in the waiting list will be appointed.
The government also clarified that if no eligible orphan candidate is available, the post will remain reserved only for that advertisement and will not be carried forward. PTI MR KRK
