Man drowns in swollen river in Dehradun

Dehradun, Jul 10 (PTI) A man drowned in the Ripsana river, swollen due to heavy rains, in the Raipur area of ​​Dehradun on Wednesday night, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre.

On receiving the information about the incident, the State Disaster Response Force team reached the spot and conducted a search operation and recovered the body, officials said.

The deceased has been identified as Anil Kumar (42), a resident of Raipur.

During the last 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rains were recorded at many places in the state, including Dehradun. Rainfall of 118 mm was recorded in Hathibarkala and 106 mm in Karanpur of Dehradun city, 130.2 mm in Mussoorie, 88 mm in Dunda of the Uttarkashi district, 101 mm in Haldwani of the Nainital district, 96.6 mm in Mukteshwar, 78 mm in Khatima of the Udham Singh Nagar district, 88 mm in Bangapani of the Pithoragarh district, 60.2 mm in Tejam, 96 mm in Ranikhet of the Almora district, 124 mm in Kapkot of the Bageshwar district and 136 mm in Tanakpur of the Champawat district.

The water levels of the Ganga, Yamuna and their tributaries have also increased. Due to landslides, 179 small and big roads across the state, including two national highways and eight state highways, are blocked for traffic and they are being repaired.

In the Uttarkashi district, the Rishikesh-Yamunotri National Highway has been blocked for traffic since June 29. In the Pithoragarh district, the Tawaghat-Lipulekh National Highway is blocked due to debris between Bundi and Gunji.
