New Delhi: The initial trends in counting of votes polled in MCD elections have shown neck to neck fight between Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party.

While the trends on television news channels, despite showing different data, suggest the close contest between the two parties, State Election Commission at 9.45 am showed BJP leading on 110 seats followed by AAP on 100, Congress on 9, independents on 3 and NCP on 1 seat.

According to various news channels, both the BJP and AAP are leading in 120-125 seats leaving 6-7 seats for Congress.

The final results can swing in any direction as per the current trends but there is no any hint for any sort of landslide victory for AAP as shown in exit polls across the news channels.

The counting of votes polled in the elections began 8 am Wednesday amid tight security.

The high-stakes election to the 250 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was held on December 4, sealing the electoral fate of 1,349 candidates in voting machines. A voter turnout of 50.48 per cent was registered in the elections.
