Chandigarh: Targeting the Narendra Modi government at the Centre on its completion of nine years in office, the working president of the Congress in Madhya Pradesh Jitu Patwari Saturday said it failed to deliver on the promises made to people.

Addressing a news conference at the Haryana Congress headquarters here, Patwari alleged that the BJP government had promised to provide two crore jobs every year to the youth, and many poor families were wooed by this.

"It made tall promises to various sections, but failed to deliver on these," Patwari said.

"Price rise and unemployment are at peak, but the PM does not say a word about it. Rich has become richer and the poor poorer...25 per cent of people are holding 75 per cent of wealth in this country as economic disparity has increased," he claimed.

Patwari further said it was promised that farmers' income would double, but in reality, what has doubled is their input costs.

"The government boasts of giving free rations to 80 crore people, but it does not care for the farmers who grow that food," he said.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing nine years in office, the Congress has demanded his apology for what it said was a "betrayal" of the people and asked him nine questions on issues ranging from rising prices and unemployment to national security and social harmony.

The Opposition party has also said the government should mark the day as 'Maafi Diwas' and released a booklet 'Nau saal, Nau sawaal'.

Describing the booklet as a report card of the nine years of the Modi government, the Congress has said it will hold press conferences in 35 cities across the country on Saturday to highlight the "failures" of the government.
