Bhopal, Jun 21 (PTI) Public parks, terraces of housing societies, and various auditoriums transformed into venues of enthusiastic gatherings across Madhya Pradesh as thousands of people performed Yoga postures on the occasion of International Yoga Day on Saturday.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia led politicians and common people in participating in different Yoga sessions in Bhopal and Indore, hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for popularising the ancient practice globally.

Yadav participated in a programme organised at Atal Path in Bhopal, while Scindia joined a mass yoga session at the historical Rajbada Palace of the erstwhile Holkar rulers in Indore.

International Yoga Day was celebrated with people from all walks of life performing traditional postures at various places in MP, braving rain at some spots.

Yadav said the day marked not only India's rich philosophical and spiritual heritage but also a turning point in the solar cycle.

"Yoga is a transformative discipline that brings mental peace, which in turn leads to contentment and non-violence — essential principles for realising the Indian worldview of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family)," the chief minister said while addressing a gathering.

The chief minister lauded PM Modi for embodying the spirit of "live and let live" during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Under his leadership, India managed to safeguard its citizens and extended support to more than 100 countries by supplying medicines and other essential resources," he said.

Scindia said a new history of yoga is being created at the international level under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a new history of yoga is being created at the international level. Based on the concept of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family), the entire world is now connected to yoga," the Union Minister for Communications told reporters.

He said the observance of International Yoga Day in over 170 countries reflects India's spiritual strength and PM Modi's global leadership.

"Every person should practise yoga for 40 to 50 minutes daily for his wellbeing," Scindia added.

The mass yoga session was held amid light showers, with Indore MP Shankar Lalwani and State Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya also participating. PTI LAL HWP ARU NSK
