MP: Three members of family burnt to death after coming in contact with fallen power line

Balaghat (MP), Jun 24 (PTI) Three members of a family including a couple were burnt to death on Tuesday after coming in contact with a fallen power line near Dewalgaon village in the district, police said.

The incident took place between 8 and 9 am when the victims were going to the Durga temple in Dewalgaon, Lanjhi police station in-charge Vibhedu Tandia said.

The deceased were identified as Sevak Ram Panche (30), his wife Renuka Panche (28) and her cousin Bhojraj Panche (28), the official said.

A tree branch had fallen on the road and the 11 kV overhead wire was lying on it, he said.

The victims did not notice it and came in contact with it, resulting in a terrible tragedy.

After being alerted about the incident, the sub divisional magistrate (SDM), tehsildar and a police team reached the spot and the bodies were transported to hospital at Lanji by a tractor, the official said.

SDM Kamalchandra Singhsar said autopsies were being carried out. The kin of victims in such incidents receive compensation from the electricity department, he informed. PTI COR MAS KRK
