Nearly 2.71 lakh investors duped of Rs 2.95 lakh cr in last 10 years: Fadnavis

Mumbai, Jul 3 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said nearly 2.71 lakh investors in Mumbai were duped of a whopping Rs 2.95 lakh crore in the last 10 years.

In a written reply to a question in the legislative council on Wednesday, Fadnavis said nearly 1.05 crore investors were duped of Rs 22,552 crore in Maharashtra, excluding Mumbai, in the last 10 years.

"In Mumbai, the Economic Offence Wing (of the Mumbai Police) reported that 2.71 lakh investors were duped of Rs 2,95,451 crore in the last ten years," the written reply said on Wednesday.

From 2016 to 2025, a total of 46,321 cyber crime cases involving financial fraud of Rs 11,033.97 crore were registered in the state.

The National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal received 58,157 cases from Maharashtra in 2024 involving financial fraud of Rs 1,186.46 crore, which included 31,583 cases from Mumbai, 13,971 from Pune and 12,582 from Thane, Fadnavis said in his reply.

Currently, there are 50 cyber police stations in the state that are operational.

To get tip offs on different financial schemes that could lead to duping of investors, Mumbai Police and different police units in the state have formed a Financial Intelligence Unit. PTI PR BNM
