Chandigarh, Jun 28 (PTI) Sanjeev Arora, the newly-elected MLA from the Ludhiana West Assembly seat, was administered oath by Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan here on Saturday.

Arora (61) defeated Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu by a margin of 10,637 votes in the Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll held on June 19.

While Arora secured 35,179 votes, Ashu got 24,542 votes. Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Jiwan Gupta polled 20,323 votes and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) nominee Parupkar Singh Ghuman received 8,203 votes.

The bypoll was necessitated by the death of ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January. The results were declared on June 23.

Arora said he will take guidance from the senior AAP leadership and leave no stone unturned for the welfare of his constituency.

AAP's Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia, its state unit president Aman Arora, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and MLA Budh Ram were present at Arora's oath-taking ceremony.

Later, Arora met Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at his residence.

Mann congratulated him on his new responsibility and said, "I have full faith that Sanjeev Aroraji will fulfil his new responsibility with full dedication and determination. He will contribute in making Punjab 'Rangla Punjab' again. PTI CHS RC
