NIA arrests 45 PFI members for 'terror links' following raids at 93 locations across 15 states

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday said it received continued inputs and evidence that the Popular Front of India (PFI) “leaders and cadres were involved in funding of terrorism and terrorist activities, organising training camps for providing armed training and radicalising people to join banned organisations”. 

The agency in the morning conducted coordinated searches along with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and police of 15 states - Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, Bihar and Manipur - at 93 locations in all.

The NIA has so far has registered five cases against the PFI cadres, said the agency. 

The agency recently took over a case initially registered in Telangana against over 25 PFI cadres, after the local police found that the accused were organising camps for training radicalised cadres. 

An agency spokesperson said during the searches ‘incriminating documents, cash, sharp edged weapons and a large number of digital devices have been seized’. 

The NIA has made 45 arrests in these cases.
