Ballia: Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh on Tuesday claimed the state has not witnessed any loss of human life due to floods in the past eight years.

Talking to reporters after inspecting ongoing flood prevention projects in Ballia district, he said Ballia was becoming vulnerable in the past due to the Ganga river.

"But now, the city is on a safe path thanks to the project brought in by Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh. The city will now remain protected. A little more work is still required, but most of the 14 flood-related projects here will be completed within the next three to four days," Swatantra Dev Singh said.

"No human casualty due to floods has been reported in Uttar Pradesh in the past eight years," he said.

During the inspection, the jal shakti minister added that it was for the first time under the Yogi Adityanath government that flood-prevention work is being completed before the floods arrive.

Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh was also present during the inspection.
